St. Jucundus was martyred during the reign of Emperor Trajanus Decius (r. 249-251). The Roman Emperor Decius initiated an empire-wide persecution by mandating all citizens to make a sacrifice to Roman gods. This edict aimed to reassert traditional Roman religious practices and was seen as a direct attack on Christianity. Many saints were martyred during this time and suffered greatly for their faith. St. Jucundus was martyred in Africa along with Felix, Secundus, Vitalis, and seven other companions.
